Welcome to the

Hensley Historic District

The Hensley Historic District, one of San Jose's oldest neighborhoods, is located directly north of the downtown. The boundaries are roughly between 2nd and 6th Streets to the west and east and Julian Street and Empire Street to the south and north. The area was designated a National Historic District in 1982 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is composed of the largest concentration of Victorian homes left in the central city area according to the Preservation Action Council. The district features many various architectural styles including Queen Anne, Italianate, Dutch Colonial, Colonial Revival, and Stick-Eastlake.

The neighborhood has an informal neighborhood association and meets on an as-needed basis. An advisory group of neighbors does meet from time to time, however, to deal with specific issues. This group is currently discussing a potential neighborhood meeting in the near future. With increased communication such as this web site and the neighborhood e-mail list there may be a need or desire to move towards a more formal organization in the future. Let us know your thoughts!
