Roosevelt Park Neighborhood Association EVENTS
After two successful attempts due to bad weather, this group was finally able to get together and clean our streets on 3/26. For future litter pickup activities call Cristina the Litter Committee Coordinator, at 453-4658 to let her know that you want a street cleanup event in your area or that you want to participate in the next event. Please leave your name, phone number and a brief message.
The Tree Planting Committee planted 40 Street Trees in our neighborhood on February 4th, on 21st, 22nd, and 23rd Streets between Santa Clara and San Antonio Streets. Thanks again to the Mayor and his "Millennium 2000 Tree Program" and San Jose Beautiful for providing these trees to our community at no cost.
The board purchased zoning maps of the Roosevelt and Olinder Neighborhoods. During the initial observation it was realized that portions of the area are still zoned R-3. This is remarkable because Zone R-3 is permitted to build high-density projects within the zoned area. the zoning is contrary to what the area can support in terms of traffic and safety. The board has brought this to the attention of our councilperson Cindy Chavez. She is looking into the matter.
The Santa Clara Transportation Authority (VTA) is conducting a transportation study for the Downtown/East Valley area of San Jose. It will identify major transit improvements that will someday be constructed in the study area which extends from McKee Road/East Julian Street on the north to Capital Expressway and Yerba Buena Road on the south, and from Market Street/Monterey Highway on the west to the eastern foothills. VTA invites you to get involved in this planning process and make your comments heard before decisions are made this summer. |
